EU ICT10-CAPS Talk with EU-Officer Fabrizio Sestini and Bert-Ola Bergstrand the CAPS Info Day in Berlin, JAN 12th, 2015

Fabrizio Sestini (text from LinkedIn): “currently leading the DG CONNECT initiative on Collective Awareness Platforms for Sustainability and Social Innovation (CAPS), which aims at stimulating bottom-up innovative ideas exploiting network effects (in networks of people, knowledge and sensors) to include citizens, grassroots organisations and civil society in participatory social innovation processes. The goal is to create open collaborative platforms which, beyond commercial hype, can lead to a more open, inclusive and participatory society.

Collective Awareness Platforms for Sustainability and Social Innovation (CAPS) The objective of the research in this field is to harness the collaborative power of ICT networks to create collective awareness of sustainability threats and enable collective solutions.”

Collective awareness platforms include several areas, such as collaborative consumption, getting facts/evidence from citizens for better decision making, driving sustainable behaviours and lifestyles, or developing alternative collaborative approaches to problem solving.

The call in this field includes four main areas – see the details here: ec.europa.eu/programmes/horizon2020/en/h2020-section/collective-awareness-platforms-sustainability-and-social-innovation-caps

Building Utopia – David + Ksenya (utopia.fm)

Building Utopia is a project to re-create the mythical island of Utopia in Minecraft and Ethereum. We will create a studio and run contract workshops to develop the social rules of Utopia (crypto currencies, democratic systems etc), and explore their vulnerabilities. We’re inviting artists, groups and projects to discuss themes and ideas to be turned into requirements of features to be built into the game. In particular we are looking to explore the themes of privacy, and decentralisation. (the text taken from description on youtube).
