With a digital mindset there comes the Living Bridges attitude

The digital will not go away – Easily adapt with Thomas Power’s wisdom

With the rising (social) connectedness we are inevitably redesigning our thinking and behavior. As happened in industrialisation, now transformation is happening to deal with the “big connectification”, resulting in the network society (Manuel Castells). We have to adapt as an individual, a consumer, a leader, a (social) entrepreneur, a teacher …). Listen to Thomas Power’s great talk!

Thomas Power confesses in the talk that he needed 11 years to switch from old school to new school mindset. Good news: You can be on his shoulders!

  • Old mindset: CSC = closed, selective, controlling
(you will just fail with this one in the world of today and tomorrow)
  • New mindset: ORS = being open, random and supportive
(what works in our hyper speed connected world)

Thank you Bert-Ola Bergstrand for sharing great stuff like this with me, personally you are my “ORS role model”.

  1. old and new mindset will co-exist. it is important to be able to switch between both according to context: be open, responsive, supportive and take the chance to be a contributor in the community – but stay in control of your own closed, selective, controlled context. what do you think?

  2. I like to call this the osmotic conception, taking an analogy from biology. Surely, in the system dynamics perspective, there is always a core of “control”, else no identity, no system which is keeping in balance and flows. I will respond some more later … /WIlli

  3. Hi Xaver, hi Willi! I love this subject! Good start! No problem in trying to control our bills or our due dates, things like that: things. But what about life? If we see society as a living system rather then a mechanical system, we must understand how complex systems work. It is more likely that living systems work as distributed networks, where there is no central control. What controls our body? What is the main organ, the controller? What seems to happen is that everyone does what they “want” in free interaction with everyone around you. Open, random and supportive are more life-like attitudes. Don’t you think so?
